Our Story
Welcome,
We started our business in the Almeria desert in Spain in 2003 with a transit van, where Andy would go and look after customers pools. Andy had a certificate in pool plant operations giving him a good basic knowledge of maintaining and repairing pools.
It was a daunting experience and a very slippery and steep slope, but we needed to earn an income. After a tough few months we finally opened a small shop in Almeria called Piscinas Del Desierto (Pools of the Desert), where we welcomed customers from all nationalities. We later became heavily involved in the construction of pools and eventually moved into the spa and swim spa market. The business became very successful, and we employed six staff and had three vans running from the one shop.
In 2008 we decided to move back to the UK and to continue our business here.
In August 2008 we set up our website in the evenings while holding down other full-time jobs and bringing up two young children. We struggled to get trade accounts with the big suppliers and started with a rack of shelves in our bedroom containing chemicals and pool maintenance equipment. Some of our current Account Representatives say they remember coming for meetings in our kitchen! Business slowly picked up, and with maintenance contracts and service work coming in Andy was able to give up his other job and concentrate solely on Clearway Pools. A full 15 years later we now supply to most of the UK and have supplied parts to all over the world.
We have done a pool refurbishment on CH4’s “Love It or List It” with Phil Spencer and Kirsty Allsopp and have supplied a hot tub for Cat to have its baby in on Red Dwarf!! And although there’s too many to mention, and we wouldn’t be allowed to anyway...we obviously have a lot of famous people on our books which, is standard in our line of business.
The whole Clearway Pools journey has had some scary and treacherous learning curves that were difficult to overcome and some risks were extremely costly; not to mention that support from the industry, especially when we were small and insignificant, was hard to find. Although the internet could help now and again, it’s very difficult to extrapolate the correct information from the masses of it available, and there is plenty of incorrect advice out there to sift through.
Clearway Pools is now widely recognised by the big industry suppliers, and they show us their backing with competitive trade discounts and in-house support we have struggled over the years to get here. We now know, in hindsight, that if we’d had support and guidance to hand, we could have achieved so much more and grown faster.
This is how we came to the conclusion that franchising out our company was the way to go, giving you the opportunity to work in the luxurious industry, and start straight away as part of a Franchise family that can help each other to avoid the pitfalls and risks we have taken so long to identify. In Australia, New Zealand and America, pool franchise businesses are already extremely successful, with franchise partners owning multiple vans and stores, and expanding their businesses to mind blowing volumes.
